A tragic car accident may have caused Tracy Morgan to miss out on Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary special, but he has officially been set to make his triumphant return. On October 17, the beloved comedian will serve as host for the celebrated comedy sketch show.
Both SNL and Morgan took to Twitter today to announce the news, with Morgan referring to the show as his “home.”

Morgan launched his comedy career on Saturday Night Live in 1996 and performed as a member of the cast until 2003. Last June, a six-vehicle crash claimed the life of Morgan’s friend, James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, while the comedian suffered broken leg bones, ribs and a broken nose. He has since reached a settlement with colossal retailer Wal-Mart, whose vehicle was involved in the accident.
“Walmart did right by me and my family, and for my associates and their families. I am grateful that the case was resolved amicably,” he said.
