MTV’s Scream series is coming back for a third season and it’s added a major star to its cast. Mary J. Blige has reportedly been cast in the limited series, VIBE has learned.
Venturing away from the plot of its previous seasons, Scream season three will follow a star football running back whose mysterious past comes back to haunt him, threatening his friends and family. Blige will reportedly play Sherry Elliott, the mother of lead character Deion Elliott, who is played by Power Rangers star RJ Cyler.
The actress will reportedly star alongside a completely new cast, including Keke Palmer, Tyga, and The Notorious B.I.G.’s C.J. Wallace.
Season three will reportedly run as a three-night, six episode series. Queen Latifah will serve as the show’s co-executive producer with The Vampire Diaries’ Brett Matthews as the showrunner.
Scream, which is a television adaptation of the popular teen cult series of the same name, previously aired it’s first two seasons in 2015 and 2016. The series was renewed for a third season in 2016, but the following year, MTV announced its plans to reboot the series with a new cast and setting.
This will mark Blige’s first acting gig since 2017’s Mudbound. Blige received two Oscar nods for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song.
Scream will air sometime this year.
