This is a rather sudden change for “X-Men” fans. But is it enough to deter them from heading to theaters?
Director Matthew Vaughn, the guy who put the X-Men back on the map with “X-Men: First Class,” has reportedly dropped out of the running to direct the upcoming “X-Men: Days Of Future Past.” The change first occurred during initial production while also revealing that the film studio is now looking at director Bryan Singer to step in and helm the movie. Singer makes the short list given the fact that he first launched the “X-Men” film franchise for 20th Century Fox and put some very impressive box-office numbers on the board.
Singer was also heavily involved with “X-Men: First Class” as well as “Days of Future Past,” providing both written treatments for the films and taking on the role of producer (along with Vaughn) for the upcoming sequel. We’re just hoping that someone finally brings those mutant-hunting Sentinels to the big screen!
“X-Men: Days Of Future Past” already has completed a script and has a release date set for July 18, 2014. There’s no word on whether or not that date will change as a result of Vaughn stepping down.
