Director John Hillcoat looks to find luck in adding leading men Michael B. Jordan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Casey Affleck in his upcoming crime-thriller, Triple Nine.
The plot follows a group of thieves who hatch a deadly plan to murder a young Los Angeles police officer in order to distract the authorities’ attention from a heist their colleagues are trying to pull off across town.
If the deals are made official, Affleck will play the officer, while Jordan would play a streetwise fellow cop who conspires with Ejiofor’s master thief to double-cross Affleck’s character. Hillcoat has a capable script from Matt Cook, and Cate Blanchett and Christoph Waltz are on-board to co-star assuming the timing all falls into place.
The director is aiming to begin production sometime next year. Providing that all three garner awards during the next season, the three leads could propel this film into a must-watch, blockbuster status thanks to roles in Out Of The Furnace, Fruitvale Station, and 12 Years a Slave.
Triple Nine, which has been Hillcoat’s next feature film, lost Chris Pine, Jeff Bridges, and Shia LaBeouf at some point, but whether or not his new cast collects any big prizes, there’s no doubt these three have a big 2014 ahead of them.
