As if the Wii game, the documentary, the movies, the countless interviews and specials weren’t enough, a new television series based on the last weeks of Michael Jackson’s life is now in the works. The series is to be produced by, none other than the Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Lost mastermind, J.J. Abrams, Variety reports.
The series is based on the book written by Tavis Smiley ‘Before You Judge Me: The Triumph and Tragedy of Michael Jackson’s Last Days.’
A release date hasn’t been unveiled yet, and the series currently has no network to call home. Both Abrams and Smiley will be executive producing the show, along with Ben Stephenson and David Brewington through Smiley’s partnership with Warner Bros. (Tavis Smiley’s TV&Film) and Abram’s production company (Bad Robot Productions).
Smiley has a very full plate when it comes to writing and producing, between working on this series and hosting his show Tavis Smiley on PBS and The Tavis Smiley Show on PRI. He’s also working on a series based on his books ‘Death of a King: The Real Story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Final Year’ and ‘My Journey With Maya.’
