Fans scratched their heads and raised their eyebrows in disbelief when streaming behemoth Netflix announced the cancelation of Luke Cage.
For two seasons Mike Colter played a tall, bullet-proof black man donning a hoodie (or sometimes a tailor-made Dapper Dan suit) and walked around his beloved Harlem protecting residents from low-level drug dealers to the criminal elite, which is why viewers were surprised to learn the show would not return for a third season.
Colter, 42, isn’t letting the news get him down. The actor took to social media Sunday (Oct. 21) to express gratitude and show off the newest addition to his family.

“I am forever grateful to Marvel and Netflix for letting me portray such a prolific character, and thank the amazing fans. As one door closes, another has opened with the birth of my second daughter born this week,” Colter captioned.
Under the tutelage of former VIBE music journalist Cheo Hodari Coker, Luke Cage premiered on Sept. 28, 2016. Coker, a firm lover of rap music, famously named each of the 13 episodes after a classic hip-hop song. The season finale of Season One was called “You Know My Steez” by Gangstarr, while the last episode of Season Two was named “They Reminisce Over You” the classic record by Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth.
According to Deadline, creative differences is what led to the cancellation. Luke Cage while a part of the Marvel universe and aimed to entertain also helped depict black men in a positive light.

We’re sad to see Luke Cage go, but let Mike Colter tell it there’s still going to be a sweet Christmas.
