While The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is burning up the box office, it’s also setting fire to timelines all across social media, according to an analysis of holiday movies’ social media popularity.
Lionsgate’s franchise phenom was listed as having the largest number of fans on Facebook and Twitter (12.8 million combined), according to Wednesday numbers from ListenFirst.
That number is not enough to top last year’s champ, Twilight, which clocked in at 37.4 million in 2012, but that is truly an impressive number. Universal’s The Best Man Holiday is fairing best among non-franchise movies this holiday season, with nearly 1.6 million accounts following it across Facebook and Twitter. The number one slot previously belonged to Disney’s Wreck-It-Ralph, which had 1.3 million fans on Twitter and Facebook.
ListenFirst proves that social media is becoming more and more prevalent in measuring the viral success of Hollywood’s top tier films. Facebook continues to be the online destination where holiday films found their social media fan base, with more than 95 percent of fans on Facebook, and 4.7 percent on Twitter.
For those unfamiliar with the company, ListenFirst is a configurable data solution that aggregates and analyzes data streams across social, digital, and traditional channels. More information can be found on its website.
