Award-winning cable conglomerate, HBO, recently announced the production of a forthcoming Muhammad Ali documentary, which will be helmed by NBA champion LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Entertainment company.
Within the feature presentation, viewers will witness rare photos and videos of Ali’s loved ones, and his rise to critical-acclaim in and outside of the ring. “He transcended sports and used his platform to empower people, which paved the way for all athletes and people of every race and gender that came after him, myself included,” James said in a press release. “It’s important that his story continues for generations to come, and it’s an honor for SpringHill Entertainment and me to be a part of this.”
Recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers star continued to preserve the legacy of Ali by donating $25 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s exhibit on the G.O.A.T.
The boxing great’s widow, Lonnie Ali, also praised the creation of the documentary, sharing her sentiments in a statement issued by HBO. “This documentary will have national and global appeal. I’m hopeful this documentary will engage the audience in a similar way Muhammad engaged his audience and fans,” she said. “Without a doubt, Muhammad’s life journey provides simple yet extraordinary lessons for all of us, with perhaps the most important one being, to see and embrace the humanity in all people.”
A date for the Antoine Fuqua-directed documentary has yet to be announced.
