Parker took to Twitter Sunday (March 20) to announce the campus where Denzel Washington and Jurnee Smollett-Bell filmed The Great Debaters would now be home for students of color interested in film. The Beyond The Lights actor also said the school will deep-dive into all aspects of filmmaking.
“The hope is that we cover all aspects of filmmaking, from sound, lighting and cinematography, to just studying film specifically with the cultural component and the history of film,” Parker, 36, said.
The first classes will be offered in the fall, but 30 lucky high school and college students will test drive the course this summer during a nine-day day program.
“You control the moving picture, you control the masses, so really getting them rallied around the idea of reclaiming the narrative of America, specifically through the eyes of people of color,” Parker said.
Well done, Mr. Parker. Well done.
