Well folks, it’s officially time to ease on down the road once again as The Wiz classic makes its return to television sets. NBC has announced the cast of the The Wiz Live! with Ne-Yo playing the role of the heartless Tin Man.
“He is a woodsman translated into the world of tin,” says costume designer Paul Tazewell in an interview with People. “It’s much more literal to work clothing than it is created out of a patchwork of metal. And it’s topped off with a tree-worker’s metal hat.”
The star-studded cast will also include David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Shanice Williams as Dorothy, and Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow. Viewers will also be treated to seeing Queen Latifah playing the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as Common playing the one who The Wiz crew have to get past as Emerald City’s gatekeeper. Catch the new spin on the 1975 Broadway classic as it airs Dec. 3 on NBC.
