Olympus Has Fallen, Antoine Fuqua’s action thriller about a North Korean terrorist takeover of the White House, came in at Number Two at the box office its opening weekend. The film — starring Angela Bassett as the head of the Secret Service, Aaron Eckhart as the president, as well as A-listers Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman — cranked in $30.5 million in ticket sales, making for one of Fuqua’s most successful openings since 2001’s Training Day.
Both Bassett and Eckhart sat down with VIBE to discuss their complex characters in the flick. “This is just a ride of a lifetime,” Bassett told VIBE about the suspense in the film. “It’s really grabbing audiences by the … can I say, the throat? The pulse? The heart? … It’s grabbing you all over.” Obviously, audiences concur.
