Many nerds are irate that Robocop is even being redone, but we’re not made at who they’re casting.
Jose Padilha, the director behind the popular Elite Squad film franchise, has been tinkering dutifully on his latest project, Robocop. Yes, there will be a remake of the late-80s cop action-film, and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is still at the center of robot technology. Interestingly enough, there are a host of new faces that will be in the film. Namely, Oscar nominee Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets And Lies) and Michael K. Williams.
Jean-Baptiste is the latest name to join the cast of Jose Padilha’s RoboCop and she will play the Chief of Police, Karen Dean. The revamped flick takes place in the year 2029 and OmniCorp is responsible for America winning wars all around the globe. Now wanting to bring this innovative technology to the home front, fate aligns as Alex Murphy (played by Joel Kinnaman), critically injured in the line of duty, becomes OmniCorp’s guinea pig to clean up the streets of Detroit.
Meanwhile, Michael K. Williams will play Murphy’s sidekick in the MGM reboot. This should make for a dope buddy picture for a new generation.
Marianne Jean-Baptiste, best known for starring on Without a Trace, will join Kinnaman, Williams, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Laurie, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle in the August 9, 2013 release.
