Straight Outta Compton has officially started a cinematic domino effect.
After F. Gary Gray’s N.W.A. biopic rocked the box office by raking in $180 million and counting, other storied hip-hop acts have been inspired to tell their own stories on screen. Next up might be Outkast, according to a recent Reddit AMA session with Big Boi. When asked about the possibility of he and Andre 3000 creating their own biopic, Big Boi revealed he had a discussion with Dr. Dre about it.
“Me and ‘Dre were just discussing this over Labor Day. Stay tuned,” he responded.
In addition to answering inquiries about an Outkast biopic, Big Boi also revealed that he caught wind of a sketch comedy skit by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele based on his relationship with Andre 3000. While found the comedians’ version of Outkast comical, he admitted that it was off base.
“It was funny but it was way off,” he replied. “Anybody who follows me on my social media accounts knows that we have been hanging out all summer with our children. We’ve been going paintballing and had a good personal summer of brotherhood. We’ve been doing music so long together that we’re just getting back to the friendship. The sketch was funny though.”
No further details were offered on the prospective Outkast biopic. But let’s do as Big Boi says, and “stay tuned.”
