With about 24 hours left before Iron Man 3‘s launch to theaters across the nation, Entertainment Weekly is leading with a claim that bodes interestingly well for the remainder of Phase 2.
The rag managed to get some interviews to support the claim, including one with Kevin Feige, and the claim they have put out there is that Joss Whedon has written Magneto’s children, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch into his Avengers 2 screenplay.
Possibly buoyed by his reaction to the Iron Man 3‘s ending, or just feeling extra giving to comic fans, it seems that Whedon’s confirmation is backed by an on-the-record comment by Kevin Feige. “I’m not confirming or denying. The draft could change six months from now,” Feige told Entertainment Weekly.
This much is true, but it’s more than likely to be actually happening. Production on the next Avengers project is set to start early next year and pre-production on movies of this scale normally take a very, very, very, very long time — just ask Peter Jackson. Despite Fox’s titanium grip on the X-Men franchise, it seems that Whedon is pushing for the brother-sister duo to be included in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ next romp versus Thanos.
Our hope is that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver can manage to keep their origin story intact and be true “mutants” in the hands of Marvel Entertainment. Get out your pens and pads, kiddos, and let those casting wish lists be written!
