Clueless (1995)
The TV Series, Clueless (1996-1999)
Portrayed: Murray
“That is what is crazy. I meet people in the industry all the time and first thing they say to me is my favorite film is Clueless. And I’m like, really? It’s surreal, because for the longest time in my life I was just known as Clueless. I wasn’t even the black guy from Clueless; people would just call me Clueless. They were like, ‘Yo Clueless, what’s up Man,’ ‘Hey Clueless, You don’t know Clueless?’ ‘Yo Clueless c’mon over here man, let me take a picture with you man!”
Waiting To Exhale (1995)
Portrayed Tarik Matthews
“I remember when we did the cast reading and all the guys showed and all the women showed up. And I just couldn’t believe I was in the presence of so many people I liked and enjoyed as actors. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this is bigger than anything I’ve ever done this is awesome.’ There were so many people in the cast that influenced me. And getting to work with Loretta Devine, which was a joy because in so many ways she reminds me of my real mom. And it made it so much easier to have confrontations and to have that mother and son banter [in the film.] We worked together as mother and son on other projects since then. Forest Whittaker hired me to do Waiting To Exhale because he was hired by director Amy Heckerling to do Fast Times At Ridgemont High. [Heckerling also directed Clueless]. Waiting to Exhale and Remember The Titans are two of my favorite films.”
Remember The Titans (2000)
Portrayed Pete Jones
“Denzel Washington is the man. In my house growing up there were three pictures on the wall. There was a picture of Martin Luther King, a picture of Jesus and a picture of Denzel Washington. It was the trilogy.”
The TV series, Scrubs (2001-2010)
Portrayed Dr. Christopher Turk
“You know you got a good thing when your costar becomes your best friend and it’s rare when it happens. The show’s been over for a year and a half now and Zach Braff and I still hang out, we spend a lot of time together. Everything you saw on screen was just us actually living out our lives and enjoying the opportunity to work with each other and folks who you think are cool people. With Zach and with everybody on that show it was really easy because we genuinely enjoyed each other’s company and we believed so much in Scrubs’ creator Bill Lawrence and his writing.”
