A new Fox series is in the works and Sanaa Lathan just grabbed her next role to be a part of it. Coming off of the success train of her latest film The Perfect Guy, the actress will be working alongside writers Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood to explore the controversial lines of race in a developing drama that currently remains untitled. The plot will roll along the lines of the effects that occur after an African-American police officer shoots and kills a white teen in Tennessee.
Lathan reunites with Prince-Bythewood for the first time since the 2000 film Love & Basketball as she is set to play an investigator who tries to get to the bottom of things in the case. With a special prosecutor by her side sent by the Department of Justice, and throughout all of the social anguish and the ongoing media coverage, the two attempt to have justice served before the city ends up in a racially segregated melee.
This will be Lathan’s first television role since her previous work in shows such as Boss, Nip/Tuck, and The Cleveland Show. The series will be produced by Undisputed Cinema who brought the film Beyond The Lights to fruition and will have a script penned by the dynamic Bythewood couple who will also executive produce the series as well.
