In unsurprising news, Stacey Dash is supporting the decision to cast a white actor by the name of Joseph Fiennes to portray the late Michael Jackson in a British made-for-TV film, Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, People reports.
The actress and FOX News contributor took to her personal blog to discuss her personal thoughts about Fiennes’ new role, which were highly favorable.
“But I say, BRAVO! I’m sick and tired of being told ‘Sorry, Stacey, this is a Caucasian-only role,'” She wrote. “Counterintuitively, this decision by Hollywood — which looks like a diss to blacks — is actually what we’ve been saying all along: roles should NOT be based on color.”
She also likened the casting decision to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash- hit musical Hamilton, in which actors of color portray the Founding Fathers.
“The show, which pre-sold $10 Million worth of tickets, ‘uses mostly actors of color to play ‘old, dead white men.’’ It’s a hip hop, rap battle version of American history… Thomas Jefferson is black. Alexander Hamilton is Puerto Rican. LOVE it,” the post reads.
Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon portrays the cross country trip that Elizabeth Taylor, MJ and actor Marlon Brando allegedly took after the September 11th terrorist attacks to cope with the country’s new travel bans. Choosing Fiennes to portray the King of Pop has been controversial; although he suffered from a skin disease that caused the pigment in his skin to lighten, Jackson was still a black man.
“This decision throws that white-only card out the window,” Dash continued. “They can’t look at black actors and say, “Sorry this role is Caucasian-only.” Roles should not be dictated by race… I want to see more of this diversity and thinking outside of the box with the equality that this designation entails – this is the right track. Yes, I’m asking for a lot. Yes, I’m going against the flow of traffic. Yes, I will receive hate over this. Guess what? I don’t care. I have wings….”
And so, the trolling lives on.
