If you didn’t get enough excitement from this year’s blockbuster Straight Outta Compton, then you’re in for a treat.
Announced on Tuesday (Nov. 17), the F. Gary Gray-directed film will be released on Blu-ray and DVD at the top of the New Year (Jan. 19). Features on the disc range from deleted clips, unreleased performances, and an in-depth mini-doc on how the group came to be. Alongside the DVD/Blu-ray release, a soundtrack will follow, which hosts the group’s most iconic cuts from “Express Yourself,” “Quiet On Tha Set,” and the film’s title track.
Within a newly released BTS clip, Dr. Dre speaks on the casting of the film and how he helped mentor Corey Hawkins to depict his likeness on the screen.
“The fact that we’re using new, talented, black artists is like very important,” Dre says. “Opening the doors for new guys to have this type of talent, we didn’t want to go out and get the typical black actors that are out there doing their thing. They would’ve made it feel funny, and possibly a little fake.”
The N.W.A reel made history this summer, raking in $200 million worldwide to this present day, and remains the biggest music biopic ever, with a tally of $60 million in its debut weekend.
Straight Outta Compton will be available on Blu-Ray & DVD on January 19, 2015
