Disney Channel’s favorite psychic is coming back to the masses sometime this year, and we can’t contain our excitement. Variety announced Tuesday (Apr. 4) that the spin-off series is returning under the new moniker, “Raven’s Home.” This time around, Raven-Symoné (Raven Baxter) and Anneliese van der Pol (Chelsea Daniels) will become parents. Raven will be the mother of twins played by Issac Ryan Brown (Booker) and Navia Robinson (Nia), while Chelsea has a son of her own, played by Jason Maybaum (Levi). The gag is, the duo assume the roles of divorced single mothers living under the same roof, raising their kids together.
But, what’s a That’s So Raven spin-off without a new generation of kids harboring the same supernatural capabilities as the original show? Variety hints that “one of Raven’s kids begins to show signs that they have inherited her trait of catching glimpses of the future.”
Symoné announced last October she was parting ways with The View in pursuits of reviving the series. In the ten years since the show’s last episode, a reboot has been rallied by the Cheetah Girl and Disney fans worldwide. The timing is probably influenced by the 1.1 million views the original show received during its midnight re-airings in 2016.
News of prior cast mates joining the spin-off remains unknown. Raven-Symoné and Orlando Brown were in a particularly odd feud toward the end of 2016. As of recent, Kyle Massey has been working on his music with the recently debuted single, “BREAKER BREAKER.” Rondell Sheridan, who played Raven’s father, continues his stand-up career with upcoming shows this month, while her on-screen mother, T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh, had an uncredited role in Spike Lee’s Chiraq and wrapped up several projects this year.
Although the additions to the cast are typically young, they’re far from rookies. Issac Brown has been featured in Black-ish and How To Get Away With Murder playing the younger versions of lead characters, Dre and Wes, respectively, in addition to currently shooting Kings alongside Halle Berry. Navia Robinson has starred in Being Mary Jane as Gabrielle Union’s niece and is set to be a part of the forthcoming Freeform sitcom of Nicki Minaj’s life. Skylar Katz, who plays Nia’s best friend (Tess), was a contestant on America’s Got Talent and has a recording contract with BMI.
Even though these young actors seem to already have enough fire under them, they could really benefit from working with a child star who’s been able to sustain a lucrative career into her adult years.
