It looks like another 90s cult classic might make its way to Broadway. Following the announcement of Love Jones preparing to make its debut on stage, The Preacher’s Wife might follow its lead.
According to Deadline, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actor Tituss Burgess wrote the score for the potential play, while Daniel Beaty penned the script. The site reports that Burgess will attend an “investors’ audition” later this month for the production that’ll feature critically-acclaimed singer Ledisi, and award-winning actress Loretta Devine, who also starred in the Penny Marshall-directed film.
The Preacher’s Wife, which starred Whitney Houston, Denzel Washington, and Courtney B. Vance, tells the story of a reverend’s (Vance) failing church, wailing relationship with his wife (Houston) and son, and how an angel named Dudley (Washington), turned the family’s setbacks into fortune. The movie is a remake of 1947’s The Bishop’s Wife.
