EA had a spectacular surprise for those attending last week’s Gamescom 2012 festivities in the form of Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel. Get the details after the jump.
The two new stars of Visceral Game‘s Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel go by the names of Alpha and Bravo, employees of paramilitary outfit Tactical Worldwide Operations (T.W.O.). In the game, the mercenaries are hired by the mayor of La Puerta, a fictional town in Mexico, to help take out the drug cartels that have overrun the place. The studio is being careful to steer clear of any direct references to anything that is currently making headlines, yet the team is changing the ‘dudebro’ tone instilled in the first two games, and going for a grittier, more serious tone.
Along with Devil’s Cartel’s new plot, Visceral Games, the game’s new developer is utilizing the Frostbite 2 engine to power the rebooted franchise.
“Frostbite 2 lets us get started as development team with an engine that’s super-robust,” Julian Beak, Executive Producer at EA said. “So we’re not spending our time doing deep, deep engineering. We’re spending our time imagining the story, and encounters and gameplay features.” In the first gameplay trailer for the game, you can see the gang put their imaginations to the test, as Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel features plenty of explosion and a ton of destruction.
Gamers can welcome the two newest employees of Tactical Worldwide Operations when Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel hits stores on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March 2013.
