The recent quiet from Peter Jackson and his camp had many concerned, but it seems as if the director was fine-tuning the first part of his new three-peat masterpiece.
As we’re smack-dab in the middle of Tolkien Week, director Peter Jackson has released an epic new glimpse of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and it’s just in time for the 75th anniversary of the book on which it is based.
The trailer, which hit the InternetS Wednesday, followed through on Jackson’s promise of experiencing “a very interesting week” for Hobbit and J.R.R. Tolkien fans. It couldn’t come at a better time. After Comic-Con fans got a massive 12-minute sneak peek at the tale, there hasn’t been much coming out of Middle-earth in recent months, except for news about how much theater space the 48-frames-per-second version of the film will get and a confirmation that the tale will indeed span three movies.

As you can see for yourself above, this trailer delivers. Everything from Bilbo Baggins‘ reluctance to join Gandalf the Grey and his dwarven comrades into the wild to the Hobbit’s endearing game of riddles with the oh-so familiar Gollum — deserves to be seen by everyone who wasn’t able to make the epic journey into Hall H this summer.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters Dec. 14.
