Former MADtv star Orlando Jones stars in The Chicago 8 which is based on actual court transcripts. Jones will play Bobby Seale, co-founder of The Black Panther Party, and one of the original accused “Chicago 8.” The tale will tell the story of eight anti-war protesters charged with conspiracy to cause riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Historically, the case was referred to as the “Chicago Seven,” since Seale, one of the most outspoken activists in the nation, was tried separated from the others. Apparently, Seale was denied postponement of his trial and even denied the right to represent himself in a court of law. Angered, the man who started the Black militant group alongside Huey P. Newton hurled such verbal volleys at the judge that he was literally bound and gagged in court. He was eventually sentenced to serve four years in prison for contempt. The other seven defendants in the case were acquitted of their crimes. The Chicago 8 – Trailer (Version 2) from The Chicago 8 on Vimeo.
