Is life unfair? Or are people just unkind? This new film from George Tillman Jr. (Soul Food, Men of Honor) looks to garner some award chatter. You be the judge after the jump.
Debuting at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, indie darling The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete will finally hit theaters nationwide this fall. We’re proud to present the first trailer which is powered by the performances of newcomers Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon.
The story follows them as Mister and Pete, a Brooklyn duo who are forced to hit the hot and dangerous streets of New York City in the summer after the elder boy’s mother (played by Jennifer Hudson) is apprehended by the police. Together, the two have to navigate the sweltering blocks and tensions within the Brooklyn projects and dodge child protective services while aiming for a brighter future. This film is another example of the capable storytelling missing within Hollywood today.

Lionsgate will place this in limited release beginning October 11.
