If there is anything we have learned from the 2012 presidential elections, it’s that money sure has a way of making folks do strange things. David Siegel, the multi-millionaire founder and CEO of Westgate Resorts, sent out an e-mail yesterday to more than 7,000 of his employees threatening their livelihood in the form of layoffs if they vote for President Barack Obama to have a second term. The man who took credit for putting George W. Bush in office is now putting his energies towards ensuring GOP candidate Mitt Romney makes it into the White House, too. His letter begins by saying, “The economy doesn’t currently pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is another four year of the same presidential administration.”
Although the Westgate CEO is quick to reassure his employees that he cannot force them to vote one way or the other, he thinly veils his intentions within the body of the letter. “It’s quite simple,” Siegel writes. “If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of the company… So, when you make your decision to vote, ask yourself, which candidate understands the economics of business ownership and who doesn’t? Answer those questions and you should know who might be the one capable of protecting and saving your job.”
Currently, a new poll has shown Mitt Romney to be edging out President Obama for the job as POTUS. Will tactics like the one Mr. David Siegel is employee help to keep the GOP candidate in the hunt for the Oval Office?
