Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk series is back for season two. The season opener premiered on Facebook Watch on Monday (Oct. 22), and Jada, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris and daughter, Willow Smith invited a pretty big guest. Will Smith joined the ladies for a candid conversation about love, marriage, and creating a unique family dynamic.
“You’re not breaking me today, Jada,” Will told his wife as he entered the red table room. “I’ve broken you enough,” she joked in response.
As many people already know, Will and Jada have always considered themselves to be “life partners” more than husband and wife. During the discussion, Will and Jada got real about the ups and downs of their marriage and why they have been able to last for the past 21 years.
The couple might seem to have the happy ending, but they revealed there was a period where they almost didn’t make it. “There was a period where mommy woke up and cried 45 days straight, I started keeping a diary,” Will revealed. “You missed some days,” Jada added.
Will continued: “It was every morning. I think that’s the worst I’ve ever felt in our marriage.”
They explained how certain thoughts and bad habits ultimately led to their demise, but over time they learned how to communicate in a way that would be beneficial to both of them. For example, very early on in their relationship, Will established a rule that they would not curse or scream at each other, which was set in motion as a result of Will witnessing domestic abuse between his father and mother at an early age.
The 27-minute episode was just the first part of the two-part episode. Next week, Will Smith will return to speak more on working through their rough patches, as well as address those longstanding rumors of swinging, infidelity, and more.
Additionally, the preview of what’s in store for the upcoming season shows more celebrities guests including Toni Braxton, more real conversations, and of course more tears.
