Two years ago, Nina starring Zoe Saldana was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and no one has seen the movie since. Since then, the Cynthia Mort directed film has received major backlash from Simone’s daughter who called for a recasting, even urging How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis to star as the talented singer, songwriter and pianist.
Criticisms were further leveled towards Saldana after photos of her wearing a prosthetic nose, an Afro and darker make up over her light-skinner tone hit the Internet. Yet despite it all, it appears as if Nina is finally hitting theaters. EW reports the movie, also starring Selma‘s David Oyelowo and Mike Epps will hit theaters April 22.
For better or for worse, Nina will hit theater this spring. Check out the film poster below.
