A second suspect has been charged with capital punishment in the shooting death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes.
According to reports, Larry Woodruffe, 24, was the one who fired the fatal shot killing Jazmine and injuring her mother LaPorsha Washington Dec. 30. The bullet pierced little Jazmine’s head killing her instantly. Washington was shot in the arm and Jazmine’s 6-year-old sister sustained injuries due to shattered glass.
Along with Woodruffe, Eric Black Jr, 20, was arrested Jan. 5 by Harris County police and confessed to driving the getaway car. Woodruffe was initially booked on felony drug possession pending further investigation.
Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said she along with a committee of senior prosecutors will decide whether to pursue the death penalty “at a later date”
Washington described the scene to reporters from her hospital bed and told them a car pulled up next to hers and began firing. Jazmine, whose funeral was Tuesday (Jan. 8) died at the scene. She also described the shooter as a white man in his 30s and 40s driving a red pick up truck. Black and Woodruffe are both black men.
Black and Woodruffe mistook Washington’s car for someone else they got into an argument with at another time.
