Curtis Adams was driving southbound on Interstate 15 in Mountain View, San Diego Sunday morning, (Oct. 28) when he saw a man on the side of the road. Adams, an active-duty Navy sailor, pulled over to assist but was shot and killed. His girlfriend called 911 and he was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center where he later died.
According to reports the shooter, 21-year-old Brandon Javier Acuna was involved in a shooting about 10 minutes prior. Acuna shot a man who attempted to stop him from breaking into a car.
California Highway patrol spotted Acuna as he was speeding northbound on Interstate 5. He was later taken into custody. He has been charged with first-degree murder in Adams’ death.
Acuna’s criminal history dates back to 2015 when he was 18-years-old and shows he has several misdemeanor offenses, which show he was fined and sentenced to three years of probation, just six weeks before shooting Adams.
In 2017, Acuna pled guilty to misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and in July he also pled guilty to creating a public nuisance.
It’s unclear why Acuna shot Adams.
