Amber Guyger was fired from the Dallas police department following the killing of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean. While the fatal incident took place nearly three weeks ago, Guyger was only recently let go from her position. Since then, she’s lawyered up and her legal counsel thinks it’s “unfair” Guyger is now unemployed.
“That’s not the way our system of justice should work. It is important for all parties and the integrity of the justice system that a full and fair investigation be allowed to reach its conclusion before decisions such as this are made,” Robert Rogers said in a statement.
Rogers added that Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall “bowed to pressure from anti-police groups and took action before all of the facts had been gathered and due process was afforded. “While he acknowledged the Sept. 6 killing was “a tragic mistake” he also added that Guyger “is completely devastated by what happened.”
Guyger’s termination fell on the same day Jean was buried in his homeland of St. Lucia. Hall fired Guyger, a four-year member of the police force, during a Monday hearing. According to reports, Guyger entered Jean’s apartment assuming it was her and shot Jean killing him. She thought he was a burglar.
Three days after the shooting Guyger was arrested but released on bond.
