There’s something special about America’s 44th president. Barack Obama may have a fair share of critics with a laundry list of ways he’s disappointed them, but it’s hard to neglect today’s (June 26) victories as dim spots in his legacy.
Just a day after having his Affordable Healthcare Act (A.K.A. Obamacare) saved by the Supreme Court, SCOTUS also officially legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states, a change Obama has long been after. His third victory of the week came in the form of worship. During the funeral for Emanuel AME Church’s slain pastor and South Carolina State Senator Rev. Clementa Pinckney, POTUS drove one particular point home in song during the moving eulogy.

He took the lead in starting off “Amazing Grace,” riffs and all. Not only did the pastors sitting directly behind him at the pulpit jump to their feet, but the entire congregation, choir and organs joined in to support the President’s word in song.
While the applause still roared, Obama closed out by acknowledging each and every one of the Charleston 9 that passed away:
“Clementa Pinckney found that grace. Cynthia Hurd found that grace. Susie Jackson found that grace. Ethel Lance found that grace. DePayne Middleton-Doctor found that grace. Tywanza Sanders found that grace. Daniel Simmons found that grace. Sharonda Singleton found that grace. Myra Thompson found that grace. To the example of their lives, they’ve now passed it onto us. May we find ourselves worthy of that precious and extraordinary gift as long as our lives endure. May grace now lead them home. May God continue to shed his grace on the UNITED States of America.”
