Bill Cosby’s legal team has a lot on their plates. And in order to make the weight a little lighter, they have decided to temporarily drop the lawsuit case against one of his sexual assault accusers, Beverly Johnson. Instead, his legal team will arguably be prioritizing from here on, focusing heavily on keeping Cosby out of jail.
Cosby originally filed the suit after an excerpt from Johnshon’s memoir The Face That Changed It All: A Memoir leaked revealing accounts of attempted assault and foul play between her and Cosby. Specifically, the memoir recalled Cosby allegedly drugged her with a cappuccino and dragged her out of the house.
Following the memoir’s release, Cosby countered the allegations saying that Johnson was attempting to “resuscitate her own career and benefit herself financially from the wave of media attention surrounding her false allegations,” according to GlobalGrind.
While it seemed Cosby’s team was moving with full force, his lawyers revealed that they would be slowing down at this time “due to the (pending) criminal proceedings in Montgomery County PA.” Cosby is also facing charges in Pennsylvania regarding a sexual assault case against Andrea Constand.
The case has been postponed, but not dropped. “We fully expect to re-file the complaint against her prior to the expiration of the statute of limitations,” Cosby’s lawyers said in a statement. But while his case with Johnson is put on ice, Cosby is set to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing for charges in the Andrea Constand case in 2004.
