Amber Guyer, the Dallas cop who shot and killed Botham Jean in his own apartment has been indicted for murder.
According to CNN, Guyer’s file including a mention of manslaughter but prosecutors are “moving forward” with the murder charge. On September 6, the then Dallas police officer entered Jean’s apartment and shot him in the torso, believing he was an intruder in her home.
Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson explained in a news conference that Guyer’s murder charge stemmed from someone “intentionally and knowingly” committing a crime while a manslaughter charge would be defined as “recklessly doing something.”
Overjoyed by the recent verdict, the 26-year-old’s parents Allison and Bertrum Jean felt moved by the decision.
“I truly believe that she inflicted tremendous evil on my son,” Alison said. “I look forward to the next test, which is a conviction of murder of Amber Guyger, and more so of a penalty, a proper penalty so she can reflect on what she has done,” from a statement in Dallas News.
While there has not yet been any clear indication as to what exactly went down in court, reports from Dallas News claim Botham Jeans’ mother and sister both took the witness stand to testify on behalf of their slain family member.
