The hate in the United States is very real as can be seen in a video Chicago resident Netta Williams shared on Facebook on Monday (June 6). The cell phone-recorded video, that has since gone viral, documents her hateful encounter with a drunk, white man during her walk home.

According to Williams, the man initially targeted his insults at a group of Latinos before shifting his attention to her. “Yes, we have made some progress, but I got this video against this guy, and [Donald] Trump is talking about building a wall,” Williams told DNAinfo. “Let’s not rest on past laurels about progress and equality. We’ve come far, but we have so much further to go.”

While Williams appears unintimidated by the man’s attack on her race, she expressed that she shared the video because she wanted to show others that overt racism isn’t merely a southern issue, but one that transpires in the north as well.
“I don’t know how you can say we are past this; we are obviously not past this,” she said.
