In probate court Wednesday afternoon (February 10) the city of Cleveland filed a creditor’s claim in the amount of $500 against Tamir Rice’s family for what is said to be an unpaid EMS bill.
According to reports, the city states that the Rice family is responsible “for emergency medical services rendered as the decedent’s last dying expense under Ohio Revised Code.”
The bill is broken down in two parts; the first is $450 in “advance life support” that was administered to 12-year-old Tamir, and $50 in mileage driven by the ambulance to the hospital where Tamir died.
The shooting death of Tamir Rice made national attention when in November 2014, officer Timothy Lohemann sprung from his vehicle shooting Tamir Rice at point blank range. Officer Lohemann did not face charges in Tamir’s death.
