The wife of a Massachusetts police officer could be facing felony charges after it was discovered that a home invasion blamed on Black Lives Matter activists was a fabricated story.
CBS News reports the “robbery” was brought to their attention when Maria Daly, the wife of Millbury police officer Daniel Daly, said BLM members raided her home and stole up to $10,000 in jewelry and other items on Oct. 17. In addition to stolen items, Daly claimed the suspects tagged her home with graffiti referencing the BLM movement. After the investigation was launched, police say many elements to Daly’s story didn’t add up.
“Something wasn’t quite right,” said Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy. “I think that was pretty obvious and as a result of that investigation, the officers did their due diligence and followed through with the investigation that we had. Basically we came to the conclusion that it was all fabricated. There was no intruder, there was no burglary.”
After filing the police report, Daly took to social media find sympathy. “We woke up to not only our house being robbed while we were sleeping, but to see this hatred for no reason,” she said on Facebook. Police believe Daly’s husband had no knowledge of the fake robbery and has been exonerated. “She must have tagged the place herself,” one neighbor said about Daly. “I don’t know why you’d do that, if you’re gonna stage a robbery, I mean really come on, you’re a cop’s wife. You should know better.”
Invetigators are under the impression Daly staged the robbery in order to take care of her financial troubles. Daly is currently facing filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation charges.
