Professor, author and Bernie Sanders supporter Cornel West had some harsh criticism for Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. Monday afternoon, West sat down with CNN’s Chris Cuomo to speak candidly about why Sen. Sanders is the best candidate for the job, and why he believes Clinton speaks out both sides of her mouth.
“Sister Hillary Clinton is the Milli Vanilli of American politics,” the 62 year old academic said. “She lip-syncs, she gives lip service. But when it comes to policy, who supported the crime bill? Who supported, not just the deregulating of banks, but also pulled the rug from under welfare?”
West then went onto site examples as to why Sanders support and affiliation with the Black community is more than just convenient due to his run for the White House. West praised Sanders for being brave enough to support Rev. Jesse Jackson’s bid for the White House in 1988.
“She shows up and gives these wonderful speeches sounding like Bernie Sanders, but Bernie Sanders on the ground getting arrested, marching with Martin” [Luther King Jr] the problem is, black voters don’t know his history in the way they know the symbolic language of Hillary Clinton,” West said.
