While candidates on both sides of the political isle continue to woo Americans for their votes, Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump’s rallies appear to be the only place where violence erupts. Whether it be a young woman repeatedly shoved and pushed as she was escorted from a gathering in Louisville, KY., or in Chicago where a photo of woman saluting Hitler went viral, Trump’s rallies are a hotbed of frustration for many.
During an interview with NBC’s “Meet The Press” the 69-year-old said he instructed his people to look into paying the legal fees of the man who sucker-punched a protester at a North Carolina rally. While Trump alleges he doesn’t condone violence, it’s his belief the man “obviously loves his country.”
“I’m going to look at it. I’m going to see, you know, what was behind this, because it was a strange event. But from what I heard, there was a lot of taunting and a certain finger was placed in the air. Not nice,” he said.
The Hill reports as the protester was walking out, a 78-year-old man punched him in the face. He was then arrested and charged the next day with assault and disorderly conduct.
“And from what I understand, he was sticking a certain finger up in the air. And that is a terrible thing to do in front of somebody that frankly wants to see America made great again. And so we’ll see. I’m going to take a look at it. But I want to see what that man was doing.”
