Dough magnate Dunkin’ Donuts has apologized for one of its employees allegedly writing “#BlackLivesMatter” on a police officer’s cup. According to CBS News, the incident took place on Friday at a Providence, Rhode Island store.
A Providence police union say that the officer was buying a coffee and being served by an employee who was described as “somewhat rude and appeared as though they did not want to serve the officer.” The cop later found “BlackLivesMatter” written on his cup.
The union then came at D&D after stating that they “work tirelessly to protect the public.”
“The negativity displayed by the #BlackLivesMatter organization towards police across this nation is creating a hostile environment that is not resolving any problems or issues, but making it worse for our communities,” The Executive Board of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3 said in a statement. “They are doing this by increasing tensions amongst police and the people they serve.”
The #BlackLivesMatter activist movement became a trending topic on timelines shortly after George Zimmerman’s 2013 acquittal in the shooting death of Florida teen, Trayvon Martin and has been extended to the tragedies from police brutality against African-Americans including Ferguson teen, Mike Brown, and 43-year-old Eric Garner of Staten Island, NY.
A Dunkin’ rep issued a statement concerning the Providence incident. “Dunkin’ Donuts and our franchisees share a commitment to the well-being and fair treatment of all our guests. The franchise owner has apologized to the police officer on behalf of Dunkin’ Donuts, and he has counseled the employee about her behavior.”
