At the top of this month (May 1), Mosby first announced Freddie Gray’s death was indeed a homicide and shared the charges against the six officers: Caesar Goodson Jr., William G. Porter, Edward M. Nero, Garrett E. Miller, Sgt. Alicia D. White and Lt. Brian W. Rice. Warrants were immediately sent out for their arrests. The various criminal charges included second-degree murder, manslaughter, assault, misconduct and false imprisonment charges.
In a statement from the executive director for the Civil Rights Organization “Color of Change” Rashad Robinson, praised Mosby for her efforts to bring justice to the Gray family.
“We strongly applaud the Baltimore grand jury’s recent indictment of all six officers who brutally killed Freddie Gray. Unfortunately, these indictments are all too rare and discriminatory police who harm Black folks are almost never held accountable. We hold the Gray family close in our hearts and minds.
State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s integrity and commitment to securing justice in this case must be commended. Her leadership stands in stark contrast to the conduct of prosecutors such as St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch who did everything in his power to prevent justice for Mike Brown.”
Officers are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, July 2. Watch Mosby’s announcement and full charges below:
