It’s official: Hillary Clinton is running for president in 2016.
In the highly-anticipated announcement made today (Apr. 12), the former secretary of state and first lady revealed to the nation that she would be eyeing the presidency for the second time. In a two-minute video clip, Clinton makes a point to target the common American through anecdotes from mothers, gardener, entrepreneurs, a college student, a gay couple, children and seniors. She capped off the montage by vowing to become the country’s “champion:”
I’m getting ready to do something too: I’m running for president. Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times, but the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top. Everyday Americans need a champion, and I want to be that champion. So you can do more than just get by, you can get ahead, and stay ahead. Because when families are strong, America is strong. So I’m hitting the road to earn your vote, because it’s your time, and I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
The campaign announcement was also accompanied by revamped Twitter, Facebook and YouTube profiles for Clinton. She also launched her official campaign website. It was made clear that her campaign staff would run the channels:
This account will be run by campaign staff from now on—but you’ll still see tweets from Hillary. They’ll be signed “-H.”
