An Illinois woman is now facing felony charges after firing off several warning shots at the gunman who killed her fiance and the father of her two children.
According to reports, 26-year-old Ashley Harrison was emotional Sunday (May 29) as she stood before Cook County Judge Adam Donald Bourgeois Jr and was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, and aggravated use of a weapon. Despite Bourgeois stating Harrison’s actions sounded like self-defense, she was still given a hefty bond of $250,000.
Prosecutors say Harrison was driving with Garvin Whitmore, 27, at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday (May 28) when someone walked up and shot Whitmore in the head. Frantic, Harrison pulled a silver .357-caliber Magnum handgun and fired several shots in the air. The gunman got away.
At the time of the shooting, Harrison and Whitmore were on their way to pick up Harrison’s aunt, Diana Davis, who was on the phone when she heard Harrison’s cries.
“I heard my niece crying, ‘Garvin! Garvin! Don’t you leave me. Don’t go. You can’t leave me.’ I called back, and she said he was dead.”
Four year ago, Whitmore and Harrison left the violence of Chicago’s West Side for Aurora in hopes to lead a better life for their family and children.
