An Indiana woman received a 20-year prison sentence for not reporting to authorities her boyfriend Nicolas Dean Thrash was sexually assaulting her daughter, which resulted in the child’s pregnancy.
According to reports, the 33-year-old woman pled guilty to neglect, aiding child molestation and assisting a criminal. She avoided a trial and accepted the prison sentence in addition to five years probation. She won’t be eligible for parole until 2136.
“We were certainly ready to go to trial in a few weeks, but the emotional and psychological toll would have been significantly more (for this trial) than the Thrash trial,” Deputy Grant County Prosecutor Lisa Glancy said
The name of the mother is being withheld to protect the identity of the now 12-year-old girl.
The girl, who was 10 at the time of the assaults, reportedly told her mother that Thrash was molesting her. The woman became aware of her daughter’s pregnancy when they were shopping for dresses and instructed the child to say it was a classmate who impregnated her.
Thrash, 34, was sentenced to 160 years in prison after being convicted on 10 counts of child molestation. The girl testified against Thrash stating he molested her at least 15 times. Glancy said it would’ve been difficult for the child to testify against her mother.
The girl gave birth to a baby boy, which was given up for adoption. She is now reportedly in foster care.
“She’s doing better. That’s all that we can hope for right now. She’s at a really good place,” Glancy said.
