A new development concerning the passing of Freddie Gray just surfaced Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 16). A judge declared a mistrial for one of the six officers involved in Gray’s death in April, stating that the jurors were engaged in a deadlock, NewsOne reports.
The officer on trial, William Porter, was charged in relation to the death of Gray, a 25-year-old Baltimore resident who was apprehended by six officers, and suffered a spinal injury due to an illegal procedure reportedly called “rough rides.” Gray didn’t have his seatbelt locked and thus passed from detrimental injuries on Apr. 19.
The trial for Porter was to determine his future in the hands of the justice system after he was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and involuntary manslaughter. The jurors have had possession of the case since Monday, but was mandated by the judge to continue the proceedings.
Details on the deliberation are still forthcoming.
