It could be deeply embedded in her character or maybe her genes, but by now the American people should know Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is incapable of biting her tongue when it comes to Donald Trump and his administration. The outspoken congresswoman-who has become Black Twitter’s official auntie-is leading the charge when it comes to putting Trump’s inadequacy as president on notice.
Yet when Waters isn’t squaring up with Trump, she’s also sparring with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. After the right-wing conservative made racist and sexist comments about the congresswoman’s hair, it was revealed in the New York Times the 67-year-old and the network paid $13 million to five women to settle sexual harassment allegations. Since then, between 30-50 advertisers, according to Adweek, have pulled their backing, but that didn’t stop Fox from renewing O’Reilly’s contract for $18.5 million.
Waters has been a frequent guest on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes, and Hayes brought her back on his show Wednesday night (April 5). While Hayes asked a bevy of questions regarding Trump’s comments on Syria and his meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, it was Waters’ comments on O’Reilly’s harassment charges and Trump’s support of O’Reilly that caused him to pause and seemingly force himself not to smile.
“Well, it’s coming out of the mouth of a man who has said horrible things about women. Don’t forget he talked about grabbing women in their private parts and because he was important, he could get away with it, and so they are two of a kind and so I’m not surprised that he stood up and tried to defend Bill O’Reilly,” the California congresswoman said to Hayes. “But, it’s all catching up with Bill O’Reilly and that sexual harassment enterprise that they created over there at Fox.”
Once the congresswoman started, it was difficult to stop her rant about O’Reilly and the allegations that have been leveled against him. Waters said Trump publicly defending him did more harm than good.
“It’s catching up with them and you have over 30 advertisers who are taking away their advertising. They’re not wanting to do business with them anymore because of the way that they have created this record of sexual harassment. They have treated women very badly, and so I understand that the Justice Department has opened a case and they’re taking a look at them because this really is a sexual harassment enterprise,” Waters said. “It shouldn’t be in America that you can sexually harass women and then buy your way out of it because you’re rich. If they continue to do this in the way that they have done, they need to go to jail. You know, the president’s over there talking about how Susan Rice needs to go to jail, they need to go to jail!”
Who really dares try and rumble with Rep. Maxine Waters? Like, for real?
