People may be happy with the fact that fast food chain McDonald’s has an all-day breakfast menu, but the people behind the counter are none too pleased with the new option.
According to Mashable, the breakfast options, which include McGriddles, hash browns and bacon, egg & cheese biscuits, implement different ingredients, equipment and creation processes than that of McDoubles and fries. A post on Reddit Australia details the annoying process behind going back and forth between breakfast options and other items on the menu.
“The egg cooker took up most of the space in the deli and the muffin toasters took up the space used by the bun stands,” the original post read. “On top of that, having to clean the grill and change the settings every time you switched between 10:1/4:1 and sausage meat would be a nightmare and would take up way too much time unless you had a much higher buffer of cooked meat than you should.”
No additional hours are given to complete the tasks of processing the food and cleaning up the area after making the food. Plus, there is less work space since the breakfast equipment must always be out and ready to use.
One poster, who says they have worked at McDonald’s for six years, said that the transition to all-day breakfast wasn’t all too bad, while many other workers said it hasn’t been a walk in the park.
“I wish maccas would just go back to cheap and simple stuff,” wrote one poster. “Always changing the menu and trying to be “a little bit fancy” just means it’s harder to make sure there are trained people in the kitchen. Turnover for the past few years has been crazy because who the f**k wants to work for sh*t pay and then expect to pull miracles out of their a** and still get shouted at.”
