Private school, Pontiac Academy for Excellence, dissmised teacher Brooke Harris after she supported students’ efforts to plan a wear-a-hoodie-to-school day.
“I’m really confused why I got fired,” Harris told The Associated Press. “I don’t think I did anything wrong.”
Currently, groups such as Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama are fighting for the 26-year-old teacher to get her job back.
Originally Harris assigned her 8th grade journalism students a paper on Trayvon Martin but the kids decided they wanted to help raise money for his family and initiated a $1 dallor fundraiser to wear hoodies for a day and donate the proceeds to the slain boy’s family.
When the administration was made aware the situation the teacher was suspended and soon after fired for supporting her students plans further.
