A New Jersey State Trooper was charged with record tampering on Wednesday (May 31) after an internal investigation showed the trooper repeatedly pulled over two women and threatened to arrest them unless they offered to go on a date with him.
Eric Richardson, 31, of Camden was suspended from his position and if convicted faces up to five years in prison for third-degree tampering of public records and fourth-degree falsifying or tampering records. Capt. Brian Polite state police spokesman, said simply “We’re policing our own personnel.”
For six months between August 2006 and January 2017, Richardson pulled over two women on state roads and repeatedly “harassed” them “about initiating a personal relationship.” Richardson is also accusing of bribing one woman by not impounding her unregistered vehicle.
Richardson is accused of pulling another woman over and realizing there’s a warrant for her arrest and threatened to arrest her unless she gave him her phone number. He’s also accused of communicating with the woman via social media.
