The NYC grand jury still remains in deliberation concerning the death of Staten Island resident Eric Garner on July 17.
The 43-year-old was seized by NYPD officers for allegedly selling loose cigarettes. The officers then brought Garner to the concrete where he was held in a chokehold until he lost his breath. The grand jury will decide whether to indict the policeman responsible for Garner’s death, whose forceful apprehension is a violation of the NYPD’s arrest policy.
CBS News reports that a decision will be announced before the end of 2014. This news arrives the same week as the no-indicment headline for Ferguson, Mo. Officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, which sparked international and stateside protests.
