On July 4 in the East New York section of Brooklyn, Delrawn Small was fatally shot by an off-duty NYPD officer, Wayne Isaacs. A dispute occurred after a reported road rage incident where Small thought Isaacs cut him off.
At a red light, Small exited his vehicle to confront Isaacs, but the officer, who was in plainclothes on his way home from Bed-Stuy’s 79th Precinct, proceeded to gun down Small seconds after he approached the car. Officer Isaacs claims Smith physically confronted him first, but a video surfaced of that night showing that Smith never assaulted Isaacs.
According to the Associated Press, Isaacs faced murder and manslaughter charges in a Brooklyn court on Tuesday (Sept. 27). He pleaded not guilty, and was taken into custody with a bail set at $500,000. Joshua Gradinger, an assistant district attorney, described the fatal shooting as, “a brutal, deliberate action wherein this defendant fired not one, not two, but three shots.”
A $25 million wrongful death lawsuit was filed against NYC by Small’s family.
